Parents/ Carers attanded Miss Chapman's Read. Write. Inc. meeting.  It was so lovely to receive positive feedback.  Thank you to all who attended!

    Parents/Carer Feedback

    Danielle G

I would just like to leave some positive feedback from yesterday’s phonics meeting with Miss Chapman for my daughter Millie.

Miss Chapman structured the meeting very well so that us parents could easily understand and become familiar with how our children are learning at school, which is indeed very different to how we were taught at school.

I was already some what familiar with how phonics is being taught but I did learn some new techniques from the meeting and have already began to implement them as well as other suggestions made into our daily routine which Millie has found very exciting. She enjoyed using Fred Talk last night which she found very entertaining and engaging. I am super impressed at how well she can decode her words already!

So overall the meeting was a success and very helpful indeed. I would like to thank you for arranging it so this way we can all work together to give our children the best chance academically.

I would like to quickly take the opportunity to say I found the zoom meeting on how KS1 is using read. write. inc phonics very helpful. I teach phonic in my job but it was so nice to be shown tools Kenny uses, eg “Fred talk” and “special friends”. I will be using these at home to help encourage him. It was just so nice to be giving the time and shown how the children are learning and what they are doing whilst they are at school. Thank you to Miss Chapman for her time and the great delivery of the meeting! It’s much appreciated.

I found it very interesting and it gave a good insight into how our children are learning and what can be done to help their progress from a parents view. Miss Chapman was very informative and shared her wide range of knowledge with us; instead of feeling spoken at for half hour, I personally felt very informed and involved. It was encouraging to hear how much the children are supported and encouraged to reach their goals.

It felt great to be invited in to the school and get a feel for the techniques being used to teach our children. Although half an hour seemed to fly by with how much info was given to us... it was great to meet the teachers and hear them say that we can approach them at any time for anything we or our children are struggling with. It was great to get a human touch along side the text and computer based learning I have completed along with kerys. We were given some great tips of how to bring phonic learning to everyday chat and kerys was loving the challenges on the walk to school this morning. We were given an overload of information but it was delivered in a very positive way along side stressing the importance of working hard during her time in year 1.

Thank you Miss Chapman for the phonics presentation. We found it really helpful and the information provided will definitely assist us at home. It's really good to hear what our children are learning in school and the way they are taught.

Thank you so much for the phonics meeting, it was really helpful.

Miss Chapman has an amazing way of breaking things down so that they are understandable. It’s great that we’ve been kept in the loop about what is being taught in our child’s class and year, and about the upcoming Phonics screening check. Very helpful zoom meeting, thank you very much.

My daughter, AAROHI, attends Phoenix Primary School and is in 1C.

I just wanted to thank Ms. Chapman for her outstanding presentation and thorough explanation of the RWI program. It helped us understand how essential reading is for children and how we can help them at home.

Furthermore, the manual is extensively detailed and a great resource for at-home reading.

Thank you very much to Phoenix for putting so much extra effort into our children's education and for keeping it all transparent for us.

  • KS1 Adventure Island Reward Trip

    Wed 20 Jul 2022

What a fantastic Adventure Island trip we have had! 21, KS1 children have worked so hard across the year to earn their three gold merit badges to take part in the Adventure Island trip.

Our day started off with a fun-filled train trip and then a swift walk down to Adventure Island to get on the rides as quickly as possible. We definitely appreciated the cooler weather and especially enjoyed the water slides as the sun was still shining! We managed to go on lots of the rides in the park. We enjoyed a delicious chicken nugget and chip meal for lunch, which went down a treat.

  • Governor Meeting

    Wed 06 Jul 2022

On Tuesday night, the Governors along with some members of the Senior Leadership Team came together for their Summer term meeting. A selection of children from the Junior Governing Body also attended to show off their excellent learning! The governors enjoyed meeting the children and were very impressed with their hard work! Well done to all!

  • Jubilee Lunch

    Tue 24 May 2022

Today's poor weather didn't stop of the children of Phoenix from enjoying a Jubilee lunch! Some children had indoor picnics, some ate in the hall with jubilant music blaring and our youngest pupils even dined in homemade crowns! Have a wonderful half term everyone and enjoy your own Jubilee celebrations!

  • Jubilee Assemblies

    Fri 20 May 2022

On Friday 20th May 2022, the children of Phoenix Primary and Nursery were very lucky to be visited by Mr L from Clever Sausage Education who led assemblies across the school on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We found out about the Queen and her family and took part in our own 'Trooping of the Colour.' Lots of dressing up, fun and laughter was had! The children then completed writing tasks based on the Jubilee and supporting art work will follow next week!

  • Rocksteady Music School

    Mon 25 Apr 2022

We have had the privilege to welcome Rocksteady into our school this Monday. Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 have been taken through a series of workshops by the amazing brand representative, Tim. The children were given the opportunity to immerse themselves into all aspects of music. It was great to see the children enjoy the experience so much and rock out to some of their favourite singers. Rocksteady are offering specialised music lessons so that children can learn an instrument. Your child has been given a letter with all relevant information on how to sign up. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis so don’t miss out!

  • 2KC Singing at the Eastgate Centre for St Luke’s Hospice

    Fri 25 Mar 2022

2KC were delighted to take part in the Mother’s Day sing-along at the Eastgate Shopping Centre. It was our first trip out as a class, so the children were bursting with excitement to go on the Phoenix minibus! The children represented the school amazingly. We were commended by local shoppers and parents for their exceptional behaviour. We sang a number of uplifting songs, such as, You Are My Sunshine and You Raise Me Up. The children’s beautiful singing meant that there was not a dry eye in the house! We look forward to hearing how much we have raised for St Luke’s Hospice.

  • The Lee Chapel Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) Poetry Slam 202

    Thu 24 Mar 2022

We were delighted to host a Poetry Slam, for the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), at The Phoenix Primary School and Nursery this morning. The theme was ‘My Voice – Let Me Be Heard’, which was particularly appropriate as we emerge from the isolation of the pandemic. Children were inspired by a multitude of current world issues, such as: COVID; the injustice of war, deforestation and homelessness, to name a few. We were lucky enough to welcome a local author, Holly Wadsworth-Hill, and West End performer, Sophia Ragavelas, to the judging panel. They were blown away by the children’s performances and had a difficult time deciding on the ‘Best Poem’ and ‘Best Performance’ for each year group. Georgia and Kiera from Year 4, and Emily and Sanam from Year 5, represented our school extremely well and we are so proud of all of their efforts. It was such an amazing morning and it was extremely rewarding to see the children from the schools across the MAT come together for this very special event. We are looking forward to Poetry Slam 2023!

  • Comic Relief/ Red Nose Day!

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

It was a very busy day today with Red Nose Day. A huge thank you to Mr Hann and the Junior Governing Body for their organisation and hard work this week. We sold over 300 red noses which proved extremely popular – selling out really quickly! Today we all wore red and donated money and we had a cake sale, run by the JGB and classes completed Red Nose Day activities in class.

So far, we have raised £1,301.62! Thank you for all your kind donations.

A very successful day – all round! Go Team Phoenix!
