Welcome to R2's Class Page

Here you will find information about the class and can find out what we have been doing in the classroom. Please check back weekly for updates.

Change over Tuesday

Reception reading books will be changed every Tuesday. Please ensure your child has their book bag, reading book(s) and reading record. Please bring these items every day as your child will regularly read with an adult in school.

PE

R2 will be having P.E on Thursday mornings.

Please ensure your child has full kit in school throughout the half-term. Kits will be sent home each holiday for washing. Hair should be tied up and earrings must be removed on these days. If children are wearing earrings they will not be allowed to join in with P.E lessons. P.E days may change from week to week. You will be informed on a weekly basis so please look out for messages on our classroom door.

A Special Video for You

We all had a fantastic time at our Reception Graduation! We’d like to thank you for all your support this year and we wish the children the very best for the next step in their academic journey. This is a special song we performed for our adults during our Graduation celebration. We hope you enjoy it!

Reception Blog ~ Friday 15th July 2022

This week we have looked at a power point story called  – The Undersea Cleaning Spree.

The story is about Blub the octopus who one night discovers a strange visitor to the ocean – a plastic bottle! Lots more unexplained friends arrive in the ocean until the creatures realise they are not friends but in fact polluting their undersea world. The animals hatch a plan to send the rubbish back to the humans and the humans decide to make sure the beach and ocean are litter free.

Read, Write, Inc.

This week in phonics we have continued to revisit lots of sounds and recap what we know. We have then applied this knowledge to our reading and writing in class.

Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q

Lots of us are now blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:

‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:

Maths

In maths this week we have been exploring and investigating relationships between both numbers and shapes. For example, how many fins does one fish have? What about if we have two fish? What pattern are you beginning to notice? What number might come next? How do you know? We have done lots of practical work and had lots of discussion on this subject this week.

Creative Curriculum /Literacy.

In creative curriculum this week we have been carrying out lots of activities around pollution and keeping our oceans and beached clean from litter. We have made posters, completed some reading comprehension about our story and written sentences on how to look after our oceans.

Homework

Homework will be set once again each Monday. Please remember there are two pieces of homework set – 1 Reading Eggs and 1 Maths seeds. Your child can also access the fast phonics part of the platform to build their phonic skills.

PE

We are now doing our PE lessons outside and changing into full kits in order to do so. The children are thoroughly enjoying taking part in our PE lessons and we are learning lots of new skills. Please remember your child now needs a full PE kit including footwear and ALL EARRINGS must be removed.

Summer weather

Now the weather is becoming warmer, please ensure your child has a hat for the playground and sun cream applied before coming to school.

Sports day

What a great success sports day was. The children were amazing in all of the activities and really enjoyed taking part. Thank you to all our adults that came to cheer us on. We really appreciate the support.

Graduation

What a year we have had! The children are immensely proud of themselves and all their achievements this year – we hope you are too. Thank you to everyone that came to our graduation. We wish your children lots of luck moving forward to year one and we know they will continue to shine.

Once again, we thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Reception team.
