Welcome to R1's Class Page

Here you will find information about the class and can find out what we have been doing in the classroom. Please check back regularly for updates.

Change over Tuesday

Reception reading books will be changed every Tuesday. Please ensure your child has their book bag, reading book(s) and reading record. Please bring these items every day as your child will regularly read with an adult in school.

Please ensure your child has full kit in school throughout the half-term. Kits will be sent home each holiday for washing. Hair should be tied up and earrings must be removed on these days. If children are wearing earrings they will not be allowed to join in with P.E lessons. P.E days may change from week to week. You will be informed on a weekly basis so please look out for messages on our classroom door.

Reception Blog ~ Friday 3rd December 2021

This week we have been exploring ‘The Christmas Story’. We have looked at traditional and more modern versions about how baby Jesus came to the world. We have talked about the importance of Christmas and linked it with other celebrations and traditions we have looked at from around the world.

Read, Write, Inc.

This week we have learnt the ‘th’ sound.

th – The princess in the tower is rescued by the horse. She says ‘thank you’.

Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds:

Some of us are now blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:

‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:

This week in maths we have been concentrating on being able to form our numbers accurately. We have been working hard to perfect this using a correct pencil grip. A copy of the rhymes can be found below.

Creative Curriculum

In creative curriculum this week, we have been talking about the Christmas story in line with our nativity performance. We have enjoyed performing and taking part. We each had a costume to wear and a part to play. We all joined in with the songs and the movements to movement. We hope you like the photographs of us in our costumes that we sent home!

Please continue to ensure your child’s snack does not contain nuts or chocolate products.

Please remember children in Reception will have their books changed every Tuesday.  Please remember to write in your child’s reading record each time they read at home. If you read with your child five times, please write in their record each time. This will earn them ticks on their reading card, which will eventually lead to certificates and prizes. All information on this is in the front of your child’s reading record book.

Please ensure you child has their book bag EVERYDAY and please ensure no water bottles or snacks are put into the bags as we don’t want our precious books getting wet and ruined.

Now the weather is becoming colder if you wish to send your children with hats, scarves and gloves, please ensure they are labelled clearly with their names.

What a busy week! Keep up the hard work Reception.

Here are some links to explore learning opportunities at home:

Have some fun with the letter sounds of the alphabet as they play together to tell stories using phonics.

Join in with number games and songs with the Numberblocks who work as a team to solve problems and find answers.
