Welcome to R1's Class Page
Here you will find information about the class and can find out what we have been doing in the classroom. Please check back regularly for updates.
Change over Tuesday
Reception reading books will be changed every Tuesday. Please ensure your child has their book bag, reading book(s) and reading record. Please bring these items every day as your child will regularly read with an adult in school.
PE
Please ensure your child has full kit in school throughout the half-term. Kits will be sent home each holiday for washing. Hair should be tied up and earrings must be removed on these days. If children are wearing earrings they will not be allowed to join in with P.E lessons. P.E days may change from week to week. You will be informed on a weekly basis so please look out for messages on our classroom door.
Class Blogs
Please read our weekly class blogs below.
Reception Blog ~ Friday 13th May 2022
This week we have a new focus text – ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. There is lovely version with Michael telling the story, with actions, here:
The story is about a family who go on a bear hunt. They make their way through lots of challenging landscapes such as ‘long wavy grass, thick oozy mud and a deep cold river and eventually find the bear! They quickly realise they don’t want to go on a bear hunt again and run home to the safety of their warm beds.
Read, Write, Inc.
This week in phonics we have been recapping our previous learning and practising lots of tricky red words on our whiteboards. We have all had a go at sounding out words using the sounds we know and using these words in sentences.
Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q
Lots of us are now blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:

‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:

Maths
This week in maths we have been looking at counting two groups to find a total. We have been making two groups of objects and counting them altogether. Some of us have also been recording this as an addition number sentence.

Creative Curriculum
In creative curriculum this week, we have been sequencing the key events from the story using images from the text. We have discussed the characters, the different story settings and have tried to use time language when sequencing the story.
Literacy
For literacy this week we have been retelling the story, using actions, drama and visuals to help us. We focused on using story specific language from the text and concentrated on using expression and performance in our retelling.
Homework
We are super impressed with the homework being done on the Reading Eggs platform. Please continue to do this with your child each week. Please remember there is 1 piece set on Reading Eggs and 1 piece set on Math seeds. Homework will be set every Monday.
PE
We are now doing our PE lessons outside and changing into full kits in order to do so. Please can we ask that you help your child to practise being independent in getting dressed and undressed. It is an important skill that they will need throughout their school life. The children are thoroughly enjoying taking part in our PE lessons and we are learning lots of new skills. Please remember your child now needs a full PE kit, including footwear and ALL EARRINGS must be removed.
Polite Reminders
Please remember children in Reception will have their books changed every Tuesday. Please continue to write in your child’s reading record each time they read at home. If you read with your child five times, please write in their record each time. This will earn them ticks on their reading card, which will eventually lead to certificates and prizes. All information on this is in the front of your child’s reading record book. Please ensure you child has their book bag EVERYDAY and please ensure no water bottles or snacks are put into the bags as we don’t want our precious books getting wet and ruined.
Thank you for your continued support and for all the well wishes you have passed on to me. I appreciate it very much.

Together, Nursery and Reception raised over £700! Well done and thank you everyone!
