P.E. Days
Year 1 have P.E weekly and the day will be confirmed with a sign on the door. Please ensure that your child has their P.E kit at school on this day. Hair should be tied up and earrings MUST be removed on these days. Your child will not be able to join in with P.E if they have earrings in.
Homework
Numbots
Big Difference
NumBots is an online game and playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. These are critical foundations in maths so we are excited by the impact NumBots will have.
Logging In
The children have brought home a username label in their reading record. NumBots can be accessed on a laptop or computer. Alternatively, the Numbots App is available at the Apple Store and on Google Play Store. This allows children to use Numbots on mobile devices and tablets.
Little and often
In order to get the best out of NumBots children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them 3 minutes, five times a week.
Game Types
1. Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams and shapes.
2. Challenge Mode – the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.
Spelling Shed
Spelling Shed follows a spelling programme linked to the National Curriculum. This will be implemented in your child’s weekly English and SPAG sessions in school, with a homework task linked to the spelling pattern for the week.
The children will have login details in their reading record. Spelling Shed can be accessed on most devices through your chosen web browser, including laptops and tablets. A Spelling Shed app is also available at the Apple Store and on Google Play Store.
In order to get the best out of Spelling Shed children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them access in short bursts, five times a week.
Spelling Shed has a Spelling option and a Phonics option in free-play mode. Stages in Spelling Shed correspond to your child’s year group. Homework challenges will be set weekly with assigned tasks.
Reading Books
Each week, you will receive one reading book matched to your child’s phonetic level. This book coincides with the Read. Write. Inc. book they will be reading during their daily phonics sessions with their RWI teacher. This book will be changed every Friday. Children will also read with staff in school, so please ensure they have this with them every day.
In the front of RWInc Book Bag Books, you will find supportive notes to help your child read the book; this follows a similar structure to how they read at school. RWInc follows a teaching sequence to encourage children to read, rather than recall the text they are presented with.

You will also receive access to your child’s RWI book they are reading in their daily phonics sessions. Your child’s RWI teacher sets this book on Oxford Owl. Please use the login at the front of your child’s reading record.
When you read with your child, please write into their reading record so that your child works towards receiving their reading certificate and prize. For every day your child reads at home, they receive a tick on their Reading Chart.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher.
