Reception Blog ~ Friday 16th February 2024

This week our focus text is the traditional tale “the three billy goats gruff”. This story is a wonderful tale about how three goats trick a grumpy troll to let them cross his bridge and eat the grass on the other side.

In Maths this week we have been exploring the concept of length. We know that length is how LONG something is and not how tall it is. We have been exploring measuring length in class and using non-standard units of measure to find out the longer / longest and shorter and shortest items.

Read, Write, Inc.

This week we have had a RWI we have been continuing learning in our sets and have been practising our reading at writing skills.

Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds:

More of us are ready to begin blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:

‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:

Here is a link for you to use to explore tricky red words:

Food at Phoenix

The menus for school dinners are on the school website – please share these meals with your children as there have been some changes to the Spring term menu. The children are still working hard on developing their fine motor skills and controlling their knives and forks. We would love for this to be encouraged and continued at home please. 😊

  • Please remember that we have PE on Mondays in Reception and we need all earrings removed and appropriate clothing in school for that day 😊
  • We hope you have a wonderful half term break and come back to school rested and ready to take on a new term!

Thank you for your continued support!

Kindest regards,

The Reception Team
