Mothering Sunday Gift Sales - Thursday 7th March and Friday 8th March

Phoenix's amazing mums/carers/step-mums/nans were acknowledged by their children in the week leading up to Mothering Sunday. During the school's Mothering Sunday Sales, children were excited to buy the perfect gift, whilst shopping with their classmates. We hope you enjoy your gifts on Sunday - the children are so excited to surprise their nearest and dearest. Children decorated their gift bags beautifully and wrote lovely things about their loved ones and it was a privilege to hear their decision-making processes when it came to selecting the 'right' gift. Thank you again to the PTA for their support in organising the gifts and supporting in the gift sales.

AIM Higher Maths Day

This week, a group of budding Year 6 mathematicians took part in a day of mathematical problem-solving challenges at Lee Chapel Primary School.

Our pupils were exemplary throughout the day and answered some difficult questions on algebra, shape and the four operations. We hope to be as successful at the next Maths Challenge, where we can keep up our mathematical success!

If you fancy yourself a budding mathematician, try the question below:

A Wriggly Nativity - Year 2

What could make us feel more Christmassy than a Christmas performance by Year 2! They performed 3 shows of ‘A Wriggly Nativity’ on Monday. Every angel, sheep, shepherd and lamb used all their excited energy to wriggle their way through the show. We are so proud of the children. It takes such hard work to remember all of the lines and the songs. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who attended. You were fabulous audiences! You were very generous with your donations too, Year 2 parents/carers raised an amazing £110.10, which goes towards replenishing costumes, the scripts and music. The Year 2 team wish you a Merry Christmas and thank you for all of your support throughout the year.

Reindeer Visit - Wednesday 13th December 2023

Two of Santa’s reindeer, Bubble and Latte, made a flying visit to Phoenix on Wednesday. It was truly magical and spread Christmas cheer to all! It was a wonderful experience for the children who had heard all about reindeer of course, but had not necessarily ever seen one. Some of us even got to feed the reindeer. If Bubble and Latte took a carrot from our hand, we knew we were on the nice list! This is something that we hope our children will remember for a long time.

Hette & Abigail - A wonderful performance at the Billericay Christmas Market

At the end of the event, our points were collated and we achieved a fantastic 846 points. We are all incredibly proud of the children. Well done to everyone. Go Team Phoenix!

Year 3 Stone Age Day

Last week, Year 3 took part in a Stone Age Day and workshop. They learnt so much about life in the Stone Age and even held some animal bones from those that were alive in the Stone Age! The children learnt how humans have evolved since the Stone Age and how they would have lived 5000 years ago. It was a fantastic day and all costumes looked incredible.

Year 2 Colchester Zoo Trip

On Monday, Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Colchester Zoo. Our topic is Explore Africa this half term. Our topic has linked to all of our learning the past six weeks, including learning about meerkats in English. Our focus story has been Meerkat Mail, which includes an adventurous meerkat called Sunny. We couldn’t wait to see if there was a meerkat called Sunny at the zoo and were especially excited to visit all of the other African animals at the zoo. We really are meerkat experts in Year 2! Ask us anything about meerkats and we will be able to tell you.

We left school at around 9am and made our way to Colchester Zoo by coach. We were so excited the whole way – we all squealed with excitement when we spotted the zoo sign! By 10.15am, we had arrived at the zoo. We couldn’t have asked for more glorious weather in October! We really did book the zoo for a perfect day as it was very quiet. We saw lions, zebras, elephants, sea lions, penguins and our favourite… meerkats! All of the children wanted to explore the adventure park at Colchester Zoo, therefore, we made sure that we included time for some fun on the slides and climbing frames.

After a busy day, we boarded the coach at around 2.30pm to head back to school. The children were so tired from their fun-filled day – some even fell asleep on the coach back! The children were well behaved throughout the trip and represented Phoenix amazingly. Well done, Year 2! You are a fantastic year group.

Skipping Workshops

Today (03/10/23), we enjoyed taking part in Skipping Workshops.  We had great fun learning to skip, or further developing our current skipping skills.  Also, we learnt tricks.  All of us had fun!

Theo, the superstar footballer!

Theo won player of the day, playing for his team K50 Academy. Well done, Theo! We are so proud of you.

Languages Day

This week, we have been celebrating all the different languages spoken by children at our school.  Miss Sainter is impressed with the work children have done and has enjoyed looking at the children's posters they have created.

Phoenix Participate With Paddington Pals

Year 3

Year 3 participated in a music workshop.  They had the orchestra, from the new Paddington show, at the Towngate theatre, come in to school to work with them. They thaught the children a song that they sang with actions.  The children found out some facts about the instruments they played. Children took part in a workshop, where they created their own song and learnt more about the musical show.

Well done, Year 3!

Another 'Major' Success

Chloe had her first UKTMA Majorettes' competition, with The Laindon Suzettes.  She Qualified in:

Military March, Majorette March, Lead Twirler and Fancy Strutt.  Chloe placed 3rd in Pom Pom Duo and 2nd in Pom Pom Solo.

Chloe has worked hard in practice, and she is beaming with pride.

You should be proud, Chloe.  These are wonderful achievements and everyone at Phoenix acknowledge that you are a star- Well done!

Majorette Success

Kerys took part in a competition on Sunday with her majorettes troupe, The Laindon Suzettes. Kerys came away with six awards, out of the possible nine that she entered. Her confidence was amazing.  All the hard work she has put in, with extra training and practising at home, really paid off!

Well done, Kerys! This is an amazing achievement and everyone at Phoenix is extemely proud of you.

The coaches were really impressed with what they saw from Keira during these weekends and selected her for the team. She is really excited to be representing Basildon. Her family and Phoenix are really proud of her.

During the summer break Hettie performed on stage with her Theatre school and took part in 2 dances, 2 songs and 2 acrobatics routines.

We joked that she was performing on the pyramid stage of Essex and one day would be on another more famous pyramid stage.  Her parents and Phoenix are very proud of her.
