Change over Tuesday
Reception reading books will be changed every Tuesday. Please ensure your child has their book bag, reading book(s) and reading record. Please bring these items every day as your child will regularly read with an adult in school.
Please ensure your child has full kit in school throughout the half-term. Kits will be sent home each holiday for washing. Hair should be tied up and earrings must be removed on these days. If children are wearing earrings they will not be allowed to join in with P.E lessons. P.E days may change from week to week. You will be informed on a weekly basis so please look out for messages on our classroom door.
We had so much fun doing our penguin dance together today.
Here is a short video of us all taking part in this wonderful charity event!
Together, Nursery and Reception have raised nearly £700! Well done and thank you everyone!
This week we put on our annual Christmas production. It was lovely to be able to invite you in to share this with you.
Thank you all for your support and understanding at this moment in time. We hope you all have a very ‘Merry Christmas’.
Reception Blog ~ Friday 20th May 2022
This week we have begun looking at a new text – ‘We’re going on a Lion hunt.’
The story is a twist on the classic ‘Bear hunt’ story. It is set in the African Savannah and about two little girls who are bravely hunting a lion. They encounter lots of obstacles but eventually find the lion and realise maybe it wasn’t such a good idea.
Read, Write, Inc.
This week in phonics we have been learning-
air – That’s not fair
igh – fly high
ch – the horse sneezes when the caterpillars hair gets up his nose.
Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q
Lots of us are now blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:
‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:
This week in Maths we have been looking at doubling. Doubling is when we add two groups of the same amount. For example 2+2=4 or we can say “double 2 is 4”. We have been using lots of practical resources to double numbers to 5 and then to 10 and recording in our books.

Creative Curriculum / Literacy
In creative curriculum and Literacy this week we have been creating setting boxes linked to our story. We have created these using lots of Art and DT techniques. We have used various different materials, resources and techniques to create our African Savannah. We then used these to retell our story using story language and to describe the story setting. We concentrated on using lots of descriptive words – called adjectives, in our descriptions.
We are super impressed with the homework being done on the Reading Eggs platform. Please continue to do this with your child each week. Please use next week and half term to catch up with any pieces of work that you may have missed. New homework will be set for the week beginning 6th June 2022.
We are now doing our PE lessons outside and changing into full kits in order to do so. The children are thoroughly enjoying taking part in our PE lessons and we are learning lots of new skills. Please remember your child now needs a full PE kit including footwear and ALL EARRINGS must be removed.
Now the weather is becoming warmer, please ensure your child has a hat for the playground and sun cream applied before coming to school.
Please remember we finish school on Tuesday 24th May and return on Monday 6th June for our half term break.
We thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend.
The Reception Team.
