Reception Blog ~ Friday 14th June 2024

Welcome back, we hope you have had a restful break.

This week we have been participating in Father’s day crafts and activities and every child has made and possibly purchased something special to give to a male role model in their lives.

Read, Write, Inc.

This week in phonics we have been in phonics sets and have been working hard on learning sounds, letter formation, writing words and captions independently,

Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds:

Lots of us are now blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:

‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:

This week in Maths we have been exploring 3D shapes and the 2D shapes within their flat faces! We have really developed our shape knowledge and have started to find 3D shapes in real life, using mathematical language to describe and identify them!

Literacy / Creative Curriculum

For literacy this week we have written sentences about our focus book “we’re going on a lion hunt” which is a wonderful re-imagining of the traditional tale “we’re going on a bear hunt” which we really enjoyed last term! We have been using language effectively to describe the setting, characters, animals and objects in the story and worked hard to put those descriptions into sentences both written and orally.

Pupil Voice:

Albert – “I’m making this for my Daddy because he lives with me and looks after me”
Grayson – “okay, now I need to find a triangular prism… here it is!!”
Ivie- “the swamp is all muddy and yucky!”

Homework this week will be in your homework files this week – please ensure that they are completed and returned by Wednesday 😊

The children are thoroughly enjoying taking part in our PE lessons on Mondays. We are learning lots of new skills and different ways in which to move our bodies. Please remember we are only removing shoes and socks for the time being and ALL EARRINGS must be removed.

  • We hope that you have a wonderful Sunday celebrating with your friends and family.
  • Remember that the children have Zoo Lab coming into school on Friday so if you haven’t paid a contribution yet, this week is your last chance to do so and to give permission for your child to attend the session also!
  • Please remember to bring in a lightweight coat and a water bottle every single day as the weather is becoming more unpredictable.

Have a lovely weekend.
