In September children will receive a tie and water bottle on their first day and books bags will be given in the 3rd week when we begin to send out reading books.

Reception Blog ~ Friday 22nd September 2023
This week we are all more settled and are all enjoying our new environment. We are being extremely grown up and independent in coming in to class in the morning, getting ourselves ready for the day and following our class and school rules. We are beginning to share and take turns and are building positive peer relationships. We are practising our fine motor skills, beginning to write our names independently and are beginning to recognise our names to self-register in the mornings.
This week’s focus book has been ‘Zog’.
This is the second week that we have been learning about Zog because it’s so meaningful, resourceful and fun! Zog is all about an accident-prone dragon who tries his best at school in order to achieve a golden star for his efforts. He doesn’t quite manage to be top of the class but then meets a Princess called pearl. He enlists the help of Princess Pearl and together they work hard to achieve Zog’s golden star from Madame Dragon. Zog is extremely proud of himself and shows off his star with pride.
We have discussed working hard at school and always trying our best. We also discussed how it feels when we achieve things and feeling proud of our efforts.
Pupil voice
“When I’m big, I’m going to be a doctor like Pearl!” – Jessica
“When I’m big, I’m going to be a racing car driver!” – Teddy
“When I’m big, I want to cook for people” - Nate
Food at Phoenix
We are continuing to enjoy school dinners and trying new foods. We are building our social skills during our lunch break and developing our independence using cutlery and putting our rubbish in the bins.
Please also remember, we are a chocolate and nut free school. Products containing chocolate and/or nuts are not permitted for snack or as lunch box options. One or two snack options are sufficient for our little ones and not a whole feast!
Messages
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
We continue to be impressed with all of the children and are very proud of their efforts, learning and attitudes.
