Reception Blog ~ Friday 5th July 2024

This week we have been exploring the poem “ROAR!” which is about the sounds that you would have been able to hear in Jurassic times! We have been exploring the onomatopoeia in the poems, acting out each verse and finding the rhymes in each rhyming couplet too! We

Read, Write, Inc.

This week in phonics we have been in phonics sets and have been working hard on learning sounds, letter formation, writing words and captions independently,

Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q

Lots of us are now blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:

‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:

Maths

This week in Maths we have been exploring maps! We have used positional language to plot and map out areas on our very own pirate maps and many of our maps have been incredibly imaginative, informative and detailed! We have even explored what a “key” is on a map and had a go at designing our own symbols and pictorials to represent elements and add them to our keys!

Literacy / Creative Curriculum

For literacy this week we have been busy focussing on our reading and comprehension skills! We have had challenges to organise and sort describing captions to which best suits a carnivorous dinosaur or a herbivore. We then had an extra activity which was focussed on our week’s focus text “Roar!”… we had to answer questions using our comprehension skills alone as there were no pictures alongside our lovely poem!

Pupil Voice

George – “Dinosaur! Fly up!”

Nate – “I want a sea monster in the water”

Teddy – “A fossil is a dinosaur bone”

Homework

Homework will be in your homework files this week – please ensure that they are completed and returned by Wednesday 😊

PE

The children are thoroughly enjoying taking part in our PE lessons on Mondays. We are learning lots of new skills and different ways in which to move our bodies. Please remember we are only removing shoes and socks for the time being and ALL EARRINGS must be removed.

Messages:

  • If your child will be bringing sun cream into school, please can you ensure that they can apply is successfully on their own and that their bottle of sun cream is clearly labelled.
  • Please remember to bring a water bottle into school every day
  • Please remember to check the windows for messages as the next few weeks will be very busy!
