Welcome to R1's Class Page

Here you will find information about the class and can find out what we have been doing in the classroom. Please check back regularly for updates.

Polite Reminders

We are going to be having P.E every Monday.

At the moment, we will only be removing jumpers/cardigans, and socks and shoes. Your child does not need a P.E kit. On P.E day, please remove your child's earrings and tie their hair back.

When children begin to bring home reading books, these will be changed every Tuesday.  Please write in your child’s reading record each time they read at home. If you read with your child five times, please write in their record each time. This will earn them ticks on their reading card, which will eventually lead to certificates and prizes. All information on this is will be in the front of your child’s reading record book. Please ensure you child has their book bag EVERYDAY and please ensure no water bottles or snacks are put into the bags as we don’t want our precious books getting wet and ruined.

Once again, we thank you for your continued support.

Potato Print Publishing Books

We were thrilled to take part in Potato Print Publishing's flagship project, working with schools to help all children become published authors! We had great fun creating our books; we discussed characters, themes, settings, plot twists and more! We have enjoyed sharing our books in-class and now, they are available to buy! You can purchase either a digital or printed copy of the book. Our book is available on the following link:

Reception Blog ~ Friday 14th July 2023

This week our core text has been “What the ladybird heard” by Julia Donaldson (Author), Lydia Monks (Illustrator). "Oink!" said the cats ...With all the MOOing and HISSing and BAAAing and CLUCKing, the farmyard is full of noise. But when Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len hatch a plot to steal the fine prize cow, it's the quietest animal of all who saves the day!

Read, Write, Inc.

This week in phonics we have continued to revisit lots of sounds and recap what we know. We have then applied this knowledge to our reading and writing in class.

Here is a link to demonstrate how we say the sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q

Lots of us are now blending sounds into words. You can find out more information about this here:

‘Jolly Phonics’ has some great songs that children can learn at home to support their phonics development:

Maths

In maths this week we have been exploring and investigating relationships between both numbers and shapes. For example, what shapes we can see in the natural world and how many legs insects have, etc. We have enjoyed looking at patterns in the natural world too!

Creative Curriculum /Literacy.

In creative curriculum this week we have been carrying out lots of activities around graduation and celebrating the amazing year we have had in our reception classes. We have learned songs, played games and met our new teachers for year one too!

Homework

This week will be the last piece of homework given in reception. We have designed a writing activity to help the children reflect on what an amazing and busy year we have had! Please read the information with your children and ask them what their favourite parts of our year together were.

PE

We are now doing our PE lessons outside and changing into full kits in order to do so. The children are thoroughly enjoying taking part in our PE lessons and we are learning lots of new skills. Please remember your child now needs a full PE kit including footwear and ALL EARRINGS must be removed.

Summer weather

Now the weather is becoming warmer, please ensure your child has a hat for the playground and sun cream applied before coming to school.

Park visits and Zoo Lab

The children have all had their trips to Markham’s chase park! They all went on a journey to find natural treasures and every class had discussions about how much rubbish we found on our walks and how it is so bad for our planet too! Please check your parent shares on evidence me to see your child!

We also had a visit from zoo lab and we met minibeasts! We spoke about insects, arachnids and herbivores / carnivores too! Ask your child which minibeast was their favourite!

Graduation

What a year we have had! The children are immensely proud of themselves and all their achievements this year – we hope you are too. Thank you to everyone that came to our graduation. We wish your children lots of luck moving forward to year one and we know they will continue to shine.

Once again, we thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Reception team.
