  • Message from Woodlands School- Year 6 & Aptitude Testing

    Fri 25 Sep 2020

    Good Afternoon,

I am writing in regards to Woodlands School's upcoming aptitude testing day. Unfortunately, due to the current national situation we are unable to hold our usual open evening.  This generally provides an opportunity to really show off the sporting provision that we have at this school.  As a result, I don't want students to miss out on the sporting route, through our aptitude testing, as a way into the school.  We are able to offer 30 places a year to those students who live outside catchment area and do not currently have a sibling within the school.

I would be extremely grateful if you were able to forward this information and the attached flyer to all year 6 parents at your school.  We are passionate about providing sporting opportunity at our school and provide a sporting programme unrivalled in the area.  The school has just been ranked the 4th best sporting state school in the country, which is something we are extremely proud of, I would like to continue to offer these opportunities for those who don't currently have the traditional route into the school.

Our aptitude testing will take place beginning on Saturday 3rd October 2020, and will run across the week to allow us to keep each primary school bubble separate.  Parents need to download an application form from our website and return to the school in order for their child to register for the testing day.

  • ‘Stranger Danger’

    Tue 22 Sep 2020

It has been drawn to our attention that there has been an incident in the local area of a child being approached by strangers.  All incidents are always reported, but we wish to raise the community’s general awareness of strangers for the safety of the children.  Parents  may wish to speak to their own children at home.

  • Advertising Opportunity in our school magazine, The Phoenix

    Wed 09 Sep 2020

Advertising Opportunity in our school magazine, The Phoenix.

We produce a termly magazine that is full of school and community news and includes lots of fun activities for all ages, meaning this magazine will stay in houses for weeks and ads will be seen time and time again.

In addition to the interesting articles, local businesses have placed adverts and were pleased with the results. The winter issue will go out to all our pupils, from Nursery age to Year 6, in time for Christmas planning and shopping. Extra copies will be available in our reception for visitors.

Whether you are in the business of home improvements, retail, food outlets, health or leisure, this is a good time to let potential customers know your services and offers. The magazine will be distributed towards the end of November.

We are selling advertising space starting at just £25 and invite parents and associates of Phoenix Primary School and Nursery to place an advert and help to fundraise for our school.

Full details of space and prices are outlined below.

    A5 glossy magazine x 700 copies

    Advertising Space:

    ¼ page portrait - £25

    ½ page landscape - £50

  • Online Safety

    Tue 08 Sep 2020

Please see below a message from EST E Safety Training who support the school in keeping our children safe when online-

    Hi Everyone,

We are putting out this post following a large number of distressing posts that appear to have gone out over the massively popular app TikTok over the past 24 hours.

It would appear that a user of TikTok used the app to live stream themselves committing suicide.

There are a significant number of posts on the app where children are crying stating that they watched the person commit suicide. Many children are talking about being traumatised and this is backed up by the way they are presenting on the app.

We have thought long and hard about putting this post out. In similar situations surrounding suicide we have been accused of scaremongering (MoMo challenge) but if children are seemingly upset or distressed for no apparent reason you may find that the TikTok posts may have been viewed by them and if we don’t disseminate the information you may not realise the connection.

We are fairly sure that TikTok have taken down the initial footage and are working hard to take down subsequent reposts. The majority of clips now show children crying and talking of the extreme nature of the live screen.

We would prefer people not to look for this content as the young peoples reactions that are being posted are distressing.

In our experience it is likely some of the content will end up being shared outside of TikTok.

In the extensive work we carry out in schools large numbers of children tell us they regularly see references to suicide online and this situation seems to underline the size of the issue.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post

    Best Regards

    John and John
