  • Hilltop Day 2

    Tue 07 Feb 2023

    Day 2

The sun is still shining on Sheringham! Everyone slept well and we were all up ready for breakfast. Groups 3 and 4 went for breakfast first, followed by 1 and 2. Breakfast was delicious and we were all full up ready for the day ahead.

My group (1) made the trek up the hill to Crates and archery, Mrs Merritt’s group (2) were doing climbing wall and power fan, group 3 (Mr Irons’ group) were on Tree Top trail and Miss Owen’s group (4) were on big zipper and team tasks. Everyone had a brilliant morning and all challenged themselves. Everyone was very proud of all the children. We returned to the centre for lunch. Jacket potato with a choice of toppings. Delicious!

Afternoon activities started promptly at 1pm. My group had big zipper and team tasks, group 2 had crates and archery, group 3 air jump and assault course and group 4 Tree top Trail. We had an amazing afternoon and Miss Chapman and Miss Geary jumped off 10m. We had a brilliant afternoon!

Dinner this eve was chicken curry.  It was lovely but Glyn’s one was the winner. Evening activity was camp fire with Dana, Sophia and Ellis. The children had a fabulous evening. Everyone was really tired and all ready for bed. Can’t wait for tomorrow.

  • Hilltop Day 1

    Mon 06 Feb 2023

    Day 1

We are finally here. The sun is shining and we have Harry as our course director. It feels absolutely amazing to be back at Hilltop.

Everyone was at school  on time and we were lucky to leave ahead of schedule and we had a smooth journey up to North Norfolk. We arrived just before 11am and it was so good to see everyone again.

The children were so excited to finally be away and so were the staff. We all went to our rooms then met in the games room for our introduction with Harry.

We ate our lunch in the games room and then met in the changing rooms for the fire drill. After the fire drill we split into three groups for trust games and ice breakers. We all had an amazing time and we went back to the centre ready for dinner.

The children played in the games room and then we had dinner.  We had burger and chips followed by treacle sponge and custard. It was delicious. The evening activity was owls and mice. The children had a brilliant time. They were all in bed by 9.30. An early night for us all.  Ready for day 2!

  • KS1 Number Day

Fri 03 Feb 2023 Miss Chapman

What a fantastic day we have had for the NSPCC Number Day! All of the children in Nursery, Reception and Key Stage One have had fun filled maths activities throughout the day. We started off the fun in assembly – all wearing our fantastic headwear, filled with a variety of maths related fun on. One child from each class won best dressed and a tuck voucher. The children really did make an effort for the occasion so thank you to the parents/carers for all of the effort you put in to the costumes. It was hard to choose just one from each class! Key Stage One then thoroughly enjoyed having different teachers throughout the morning. The Year 1 and Year 2 teachers hosted a variety of maths activities, with the children rotating around the school; from shape making on geo-boards to playing shops with money. Maths is fundamental to children’s lives and therefore, raising awareness for the subject today has been excellent. We thought about maths in our everyday lives, as well as jobs for when we grow older. Many of us could not believe footballers use maths - counting goals and keeping time! We look forward to seeing how much money we have raised for such a great cause. Bring on Number Day 2024!

  • Year 1 St Nicholas Church Trip

Sat 03 Dec 2022 Miss Chapman
  • Year 1 Great Fire of London Workshop

Thu 01 Dec 2022 Miss Chapman

As part of Year 1’s ‘Great Fire of London’ history topic, we welcomed an immersive workshop to Phoenix. Through role-play, children explored what it was like to be Thomas Farriner, working in the bakery as the fire started. Using freeze frames and drama games, we explored how the fire spread so quickly and why, as well as how the people of London escaped in 1666. We had many historical ‘hats’ on; from being Thomas Farriner to King Charles. What an amazing experience we had to finalise all of our history learning this half term! The children all worked so hard and were a credit to the school. Well done, Year 1!

  • KS1 Music Technology Workshop

Thu 17 Nov 2022 Miss Chapman

This week, KS1 were lucky enough to experience a music technology workshop with Conductive Music. They explored how to transform their bodies into a musical instrument, playing the piano simply by high fiving! The STEAM approach to the workshop allowed the children to think about electricity, everyday materials, computing skills and music all at once. KS1 loved being able to create sounds using the makey makey. First, they played the piano by holding both the negative and positive parts of the makey makey, turning themselves into a conductor. Next, they experimented with crocodile clips, trying out different materials like their hands, jumpers and shoes to find a good conductor. If the material was a conductor, a sound was made. Finally, they created patterns with graphite pencils, discovering that graphite was also a good conductor so their paper become a piano.

  • Year 1 Wat Tyler Park Trip

    Sat 05 Nov 2022

How lucky have we been with the weather today! The sun shining was the perfect start to our Year 1, Wat Tyler Park trip, particularly with the rain the past couple of days. It was so nice to see the children all out on a school trip, having complete normality back, since COVID, and being able to attend trips. This was some of the children’s first time experiencing a coach ride and they were extremely excited.

When we arrived at Wat Tyler, we split off into our classes and got stuck straight into our activities. The Minibeast hunt was a firm favourite, with children catching and classifying a range of minibeasts. We had so much fun on the Sensory Tour; discovering the natural environment around Wat Tyler and using our senses to make a magical potion. The most well-loved activity had to be the Pond Dipping. Children explored the aquatic habitats of the parks and caught all sorts of interesting inhabitants within the pond.

We arrived back at school with lots more scientific knowledge on our animals, including humans topic. Year 1 have more exciting, educational filled trips/visits over the academic year planned, and are particularly looking forward to the Great Fire of London workshop and St Nicholas Church visit next.
