  • KS1 Music Technology Workshop

Thu 17 Nov 2022 Miss Chapman

This week, KS1 were lucky enough to experience a music technology workshop with Conductive Music. They explored how to transform their bodies into a musical instrument, playing the piano simply by high fiving! The STEAM approach to the workshop allowed the children to think about electricity, everyday materials, computing skills and music all at once. KS1 loved being able to create sounds using the makey makey. First, they played the piano by holding both the negative and positive parts of the makey makey, turning themselves into a conductor. Next, they experimented with crocodile clips, trying out different materials like their hands, jumpers and shoes to find a good conductor. If the material was a conductor, a sound was made. Finally, they created patterns with graphite pencils, discovering that graphite was also a good conductor so their paper become a piano.

  • Year 1 Wat Tyler Park Trip

    Sat 05 Nov 2022

How lucky have we been with the weather today! The sun shining was the perfect start to our Year 1, Wat Tyler Park trip, particularly with the rain the past couple of days. It was so nice to see the children all out on a school trip, having complete normality back, since COVID, and being able to attend trips. This was some of the children’s first time experiencing a coach ride and they were extremely excited.

When we arrived at Wat Tyler, we split off into our classes and got stuck straight into our activities. The Minibeast hunt was a firm favourite, with children catching and classifying a range of minibeasts. We had so much fun on the Sensory Tour; discovering the natural environment around Wat Tyler and using our senses to make a magical potion. The most well-loved activity had to be the Pond Dipping. Children explored the aquatic habitats of the parks and caught all sorts of interesting inhabitants within the pond.

We arrived back at school with lots more scientific knowledge on our animals, including humans topic. Year 1 have more exciting, educational filled trips/visits over the academic year planned, and are particularly looking forward to the Great Fire of London workshop and St Nicholas Church visit next.
