Welcome Message

In the links above you will find out all about the exciting learning that is yet to come this half term! Please have a browse.

Below you will find important information regarding your child's PE time slot and information on reading.

At the bottom of the page you will find the children's class blog- A weekly update of all the exciting things that happen within the week! Enjoy!

Reading Books

Please listen to your children read daily. When the children are confident with the text, their book will be changed.  Please ensure book bags are in school each and every day as we will be reading with each child throughout the week.

P.E Days

Year 1 have P.E weekly and the day will be confirmed with a sign on the door.  Please ensure that your child has their P.E kit at school on this day. Hair should be tied up and earrings MUST be removed on these days. Your child will not be able to join in with P.E if they have earrings in.

Homework

Homework is set every Friday via J2E. This will direct you to access Reading Eggs and Maths Seeds where your children will complete an English and Maths task. Please support your child in completing these tasks. Their logins for J2E, Reading Eggs and Maths Seeds can be found inside their reading journals. If you encounter any problems, please speak to your class teacher.

Phonics Screening

During the Phonics Screening Check, children are asked to read (decode) 40 words. Most of these words are real words but some are pseudo-words. Please use the resources below to help your child practice reading, in advance of the phonics screening.

While these words may not necessarily be used in the Phonics Screening Check, helping your child to decode words with a range of digraphs and trigraphs will support your child's reading abilities.

If you have any queries, please speak with your child's class teacher.

Class Blogs

Please read our weekly class blogs below.

English:

This week in English we have been looking at rewriting an alternate version of the story, Whatever Next?

We looked at characters and key events in the story then changed some of the details to make it our own. By changing some details, we had to change whole scenes which made our writing fun and interesting!

Maths:

This week we have been completing our end of term assessments. We found some parts tricky, so they will be good to pratice!

Please look at missing number problems (e.g. 10 - ? = 6)

We found finding half of a number a little tricky, and when given a quarter of a number (e.g. 2) we had to find out the whole part (8).

History:

We continued to learn about Neil Armstrong this week, and looked at the US Space Race with Russia! We explored what this meant and how the team at NASA won.

PE

We had a wonderful time for Sports Day this week. All of the children worked very hard in their teams and showed great sportsmanship! Well done to everybody and thank you for coming to support us.
