At the bottom of the page you will find the children's class blog- A weekly update of all the exciting things that happen within Year 5!
Homework
In Year 5 we are using Mirodo as an online platform to complete homework. Every child has a login and each week a Maths and English task will be set. Please find a handbook below which is a guide to getting started.
Reading
It is important that you read to someone at least 3 times per week but every day if possible. You or an adult can record when you have read in your Reading Journal. Each time you read, you will receive a tick on your reading chart. When your chart is full up, you will receive a certificate. Once you complete your platinum award, you will get to choose a book to keep and take home.
PE
Your PE kit should be in school every day as our sessions may change or may take place as part of a cross curricular lesson. Hair should be tied up and earrings MUST be removed on these days, otherwise you will not be able to join in with P.E if you have earrings in.
Please ensure that you wear the correct school uniform every day.

Caterpillars!
In Year 5 we are currently learning about living things and their habitats. In order to further our understanding of lifecycles, we will be watching the lifecycle of caterpillars happen in our classroom!
Week 1 - 04.09.2023
Week 1 (07.09.2023) - Our caterpillar have been eating lots of nutrients and have grown in size!
Week 2 (12.09.2023) - Our caterpillars have climbed to the lid and formed a chrysalis.
Week 3 (18.09.2023) - Our caterpillars have turned into butterflies.
Class Blog
Friday 19th April 2024
We have been super busy and working really hard during our first week back after the Easter break!
English
In English we have been writing a setting description about a village in China, using onomatopoeia. We used the different senses to describe the setting.
Maths
This week all three Maths sets have been looking at fractions. We have been converting fractions to decimals.
PE
We had PE with Miss Larking on Tuesday and played rounders as well as have some boys in from Southend United to teach us about healthy living.
French
In French we have been learning the names of some items of clothes and completed a crossword using the new vocabulary.
Science
We have carried out a Science experiment where we have been separating salt from water through evaporation.
