Nine schools from across Basildon took part in this year's New Basildon Challenge hosted by Phoenix.
Year 2 children represented their schools in a Poetry Recital where 2 children from each school recited a poem, of their choice, to an audience of teachers, parents and judges. The children did their schools proud! 3rd place went to Northlands Primary, 2nd place went to Ryedene Primary and the winners were Lincewood Primary School.
In the afternoon, Year 5 children competed in The Great Debate, again, in front of teachers, parents and judges. Their persuasive discussion was on the topic -
‘Following the introduction of Sugar Tax, how could the government do more to encourage healthy eating?’ All the children delivered their presentations persuasively and with conviction, answering questions from the judges. 3rd place went to Phoenix Primary, 2nd place went to Lincewood Primary and the winners were Greensted Juniors.
