Children in year 5 are expected to read at home as much as possible, either to a family member or independently. Please ensure reading records are brought to school daily and signed when your child has read. We are then able to write in them when they read with adults in school. This will then work towards them earning their Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum reading certificates, where they can then get a free book to keep.
Year 5 are now also lucky enough to be included in a new reading scheme. Each child has challenged themselves to read 1 million words before the end of the school year in order to win themselves a trip to Pizza Hut. 5S are reading lots in school, please continue to read with them at home to help them reach their target!
5S will have weekly P.E. although sometimes the day it is on may change. Therefore please ensure that your child has their P.E kit at school every day. Your child will need a white T-shirt, black shorts and suitable footwear (trainers/plimsolls). In the winter months your child can wear black tracksuit bottoms and a jumper. Hair should be tied up and earrings MUST be removed. Your child will not be able to join in with P.E if they have earrings in.
Class blog - Tuesday 11th July 2017
Another exciting couple of weeks have passed by so quickly. Some of us in year 5 that had earned 3 gold merit badges during the year, were lucky enough to be rewarded with a trip to Adventure Island last week. We had great fun trying rides we had never been on before with lunch and ice cream too!
Some of our best athletes in year 5 competed with others from the rest of the year groups, against other schools in our Disctrict Sports. The children all worked so hard, on what was a very hot day, in a variety of events. Well done to everyone for your performance and patience.
Some year 5 children also participated in the Poetry Slam last Friday evening, at Greensted school. There were fantastic performances from everyone involved and even though we didn't win it was a good experience, performing our poems in public. The children did so well and earned lots of house points along with a certificate each.
Today we have had class swap day after finding out our new classes for Year 6. We are all very happy to be staying with Mrs Smith for another year.
Next week we look forward to seeing who has earned bronze, silver and gold merit badges for this term, along with the announcement of prefects and Head Boy and Girl. There is also an inflatable assault course reward for those children that have earned 100% attendance throughout the year.
Homework is being sent home for the Summer holidays linked to our year 6 topic on The Mayans. There will be house points to be earned for those that hand it in when we come back along with the chance of seeing their work displayed in class.
Be sure to catch up with what we are doing in 6S when we come back in September!
