Reading Books

Please listen to your children read daily. When the children are confident with the text, their book will be changed.  Please ensure book bags are in school each and every day as we will be reading with each child throughout the week.

P.E Days

Year 1 have P.E weekly and the day will be confirmed with a sign on the door.  Please ensure that your child has their P.E kit at school on this day. Hair should be tied up and earrings MUST be removed on these days. Your child will not be able to join in with P.E if they have earrings in.

Homework is set every Friday via J2E. This will direct you to access Reading Eggs and Maths Seeds where your children will complete an English and Maths task. Please support your child in completing these tasks. Their logins for J2E, Reading Eggs and Maths Seeds can be found inside their reading journals. If you encounter any problems, please speak to your class teacher.

Class Blog 21.01.21

It has been another very busy week both in school and for all of the children at home. I have really enjoyed the Zoom meetings this week so thank you to all of those who have attended. It has been lovely to see your smiling faces again!

For those at home, please remember to upload your work back onto J2E or email it over to for feedback and house points! Don’t forget Miss Geary will be sending postcards to children who have impressed their teachers with their amazing home learning. I have already asked Miss Geary to send lots of postcards home this week because I have been so impressed by so many of you J

In maths, we have started to learn about 3D shapes. Some of us went on a 3D shape hunt around our home. It looks like you all had lots of fun doing this. We have been thinking about flat faces and curved surfaces. We can stack the flat faces and roll curved surfaces.

In English this week, we have been learning and recapping our phonics sounds. Fred the Frog made an appearance on Zoom! We have enjoyed writing them into some sentences. Lots of us have been challenging ourselves by writing questions and extending our sentences with conjunctions. We have also been looking at statements in GPS. Some of us have even written our own ones! Statements tell us information. We have been working hard on our handwriting, forming the letters h and i.

In History, we looked at the staff’s memories of the 1960s. Mr Hann liked Thunderbirds. Some of you answered my next step question, which was great to see, this meant you watched clips of the old Thunderbirds and the new Thunderbirds and compared them to see if you could find any differences. I was very impressed with some of the answers!

In science, we sorted out foods into part of your 5 a day and not part of your 5 a day. Many of you could tell me what you need to eat to keep a balanced diet. Some of you even told me your favourite fruit and vegetable!

In RE we found out about how Jesus was a good friend. We looked at Jesus calming the storm and the story of Zacchaeus. Jesus was a good friend because he took care of people. Some of you even challenged yourself by telling me what book these stories come from. Super RE work this week!

In art this week we practised our cutting skills. This is to help us when we create our own toy next week! We must always keep our thumb to the sun and our elbow tucked into our body to help us with our cutting.
