On 4th October we sent our top 16 mathematicians in Years 5 & 6 to compete against 8 other primary schools and James Hornsby's Year 7s. There were 19 teams in total and our Phoenix 1 team came 7th!
What a brilliant day at James Hornsby School investigating the Alien Autopsy!
We learned about the different scientific equipment we would be using.
In Biology we tested the alien’s body parts for protein, carbohydrates, fats and sugar.
In Chemistry we tested the pH levels of the body fluids.
In Physics we made a prototype parachute using play dough as a weight.
We had to make sure we could drop a raw egg without it cracking!
We tested our parachutes.
Yesterday, some of our Year 4 children attended a Gifted and Talented Literacy day at Lincewood Primary School.
After looking at real storyboards from James Bond films they made their own 'Traditional Tale with a twist'. We all learned how camera angles can add to the atmosphere of a film. After setting up and taking photos of their scenes the children made their own comic strip film. It was a great day!
On Wednesday our Gifted and talented year 1 Scientists went to Great Berry Primary School. Their task was to design and make Jack and Jill's bucket. As you can see, they did a great job!
Wole and Ellia represented Phoenix Primary School in an incredibly tough spelling competition at Lee Chapel Primary. 10 local schools competed in this challenge. We came 4th!
On Thursday 10th March Hanna and Jai from 2J represented Phoenix Primary School in a Spelling Competition.
10 schools from the local area entered the BEST Basildon Challenge 2015/16 Spelling Bee, held at Lee Chapel Primary School.
We are proud to announce that we came joint 2nd place!
