Welcome Message

Hello and welcome to to the class page for 5H. We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning!

In the links above you will find out all about the exciting learning that is yet to come this half term! Please have a browse.

Below you will find important information regarding your child's PE time slot and information on reading.

At the bottom of the page you will find the children's class blog- A fortnightly update of all the exciting things that happen within 5H! Enjoy!

Reading Books

Every child in 5H will choose a reading book to bring home and share with you. Please ensure your children are reading regularly at home independently, to and adult or with an adult. This will greatly improve all aspects of their learning. Children will be encouraged to read daily in school, be read to in school and discuss their books with each other and the adults in 5H. 5H are expected to bring their reading books and reading records in daily as we will be reading throughout the week.

Year 5 are lucky enough to be included in a new reading scheme. Each child has challenged themselves to read 1 million words before the end of the school year in order to win themselves a trip to Pizza Hut. 5H are reading lots in school, please continue to read with them at home to help them reach their target!

P.E Days

Currently 5H have P.E on a Thursday afternoon. Your child should have their P.E kit in school every day as their timetabled P.E slot may change at short notice. This also allows us to do P.E games and activities throughout the week. Hair should be tied up and earrings MUST be removed on these days. Your child will not be able to join in with P.E if they have earrings in.

Class Blog 11th July

It’s been a hot couple of weeks and we have been working really hard during our last few weeks in year 5! To make the most of the weather, we have been playing football rounders and trying to beat our own personal bests in athletics. This involved shot put, sprints and long jump.

‘I want to beat my own PB to prove to myself that I can do it’ JH.

‘I ran 200m in 10 seconds! That’s my best score ever!’ LC.

In English, we have been writing our own portal stories. Our characters use everyday objects as portals to other worlds. We have had great fun thinking of ways for our characters to enter new worlds and what they could do in them. Our favourite was ‘Fishy Business’, which is about a girl who goes through a washing machine portal into an underwater world full of fishy socks and jean sharks.

On Thursday, ADK and PK joined other 3 gold badge winners at Southend’s Adventure Island. A great time was had by all (especially Mrs Smith and Miss Holman, who enjoyed an ice cream after the Rage) and the children were a credit to the school, as always!

On Friday, LC, TB, JH, LMB and AL competed in a poetry slam against other schools.

‘We wrote the poems ourselves using extended metaphors, similes and onomatopoeia.’ JH.

‘I never thought I would perform on stage, with a microphone, but I did!’ AL.

The children practised lots and performed in front of KS2 twice before the big competition. Well done to all of you, you were fantastic!

Another well done to all of those children who went for head boy and girl and a big well done to the finalists and the winners (who will be revealed soon!)

Today we has class swap morning and 5H spent the morning with their new teacher Mr Mason. All of the children were really excited to be spending year 6 with Mr Mason, although we know we have lots of hard work to do next year.

As sad as I am to see you go, I know you will all have a fantastic year with Mr Mason. You have all come on leaps and bounds this year and I can’t wait to see what you can do in your SATS year! You are all superstars and I wish you the absolute best of luck in year 6!

Have a great 6 weeks holidays!
